Renewing your vows checklist
Renewing your vows checklist
A renewal of vows ceremony is an opportunity for you and your partner to renew your marriage or civil partnership vows and confirm your continuing love and devotion for one another.
Perhaps you're celebrating a special anniversary or it may be that your legal ceremony was overseas and you would like to celebrate again with family and friends who could not be with you on the day. You may simply want to pledge your love for each other once more.
It can also be a good option for those who have married recently but were not able to invite everybody.
You’ll be asked to provide your marriage or civil partnership certificate as proof of your legal ceremony. In addition, you’ll be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit which will be deducted from the final cost of the ceremony.
Renewal of vow ceremonies have no legal recognition.
The venue
Your renewal of vows ceremony can take place at our Bootham Suite or at any of our approved venues.
When you have chosen a venue for your renewal of vows ceremony you should contact us to check our availability and provisionally book your ceremony. You’ll be required to pay a £50 deposit.
Your booking is confirmed when you have made final payment and returned your ceremony planner form 6 weeks prior to the ceremony.
Pre-ceremony consultation service
We provide a 'pre-ceremony consultation service' giving you the opportunity to discuss all aspects of your ceremony with an experienced Celebration Officer who'll be able to answer any questions you have about your ceremony and help to prepare you for your special day.
Contact us to book your 40-minute pre-ceremony consultation, subject to availability, Monday to Friday.
Your ceremony
The ceremony can be bespoke to you. You'll be asked to complete a ceremony planner and a couples' questionnaire so we can tailor the ceremony to you. You can include what you want, the choice is yours!
You can exchange rings or gifts, you can have up to 2 readings or poems or if you have other ideas you can submit these and we'll review them.
Our celebrants are happy to provide guidance if you so wish.
No religious content is allowed in this ceremony, that includes your music choices and readings.
The ceremony ends with signing a commemorative certificate.
If you wish to change the date, time, or location of your ceremony you must request this in writing by email or post. Alternate dates will be subject to our availability.
